Irish Sunbonnets - Finished Size - King - Approx. 111' X 94"
Irish Sunbonnets is a combination of the Sunbonnet Sue quilt pattern and the Irish Chain quilt pattern and a little bit of Dresden Plate pattern thrown in for fun.
For years, as a child I had a Sunbonnet Sue quilt (or Dutch Doll quilt as I knew it back then) that my grandmother had made from some of my mother’s dress remnants from where she was a child. I wish I still had this quilt today.
I’ve always liked the Sunbonnet Sue pattern, but fell in love with this one for all the variations from the original design. Hopefully this will become some little girl’s prized possession.
Printed cotton dresses (pieced to resemble the Dresden Plate pattern) are accented by a coordinating solid with a black scarf for the bonnet. The Sunbonnet’s are machine appliqued to unbleached muslin, then the squares are machined pieced with the Irish chain pattern, featuring the same printed cotton in the dresses. The quilt is freehand quilted to highlight the Sunbonnet Sue’s.
